Mindfulness in the Midst of Chaos

The world is a whirlwind right now. Politics, change, and uncertainty weigh heavily on many of us. Some feel the impact deeply, while others watch from a distance. Regardless of where we stand, we are all still living, still breathing. And where we place our thoughts, our energy follows.

If we constantly focus on negativity—doomscrolling, venting, or ruminating—it doesn’t just stay contained within us. It amplifies. That’s not to say we should be dismissive or turn a blind eye to what’s happening. But what if we shifted the direction of our focus? What if, instead of fueling frustration, we redirected our energy toward something that cultivates peace, both within ourselves and beyond?

The Power of Loving-Kindness

One of the most grounding practices I return to in these times is the Loving-Kindness Meditation (Metta). This meditation isn’t just about repeating words—it’s about intentional energy, about sending out vibrations of love and compassion into a world that desperately needs it.

It begins with yourself. You picture a version of yourself—perhaps a younger version, perhaps the you that’s struggling right now. You offer that version love, kindness, and warmth. Then, the practice expands. You send loving-kindness outward—to a person, a pet, a place on the planet that needs healing. It could even be a past version of yourself, or a stranger who may be suffering.

Who comes to mind? Maybe someone who challenges you. Maybe a public figure amid controversy. Maybe a part of the world that is aching.

You might wonder, Does this energy actually reach them? Maybe. Maybe not in the way we imagine. But energy is real. Vibrations ripple. If enough of us send love rather than frustration, kindness rather than resentment, the shift begins within. And that’s the first step toward change.

Shifting the Narrative

If we want real change—if we’re upset, if we’re seeking something different—complaining into the void won’t get us there. Reacting from anger alone rarely brings resolution. Instead, we can pause. What is upsetting me? Why? How can I reframe this conversation? When we step back from reaction and into mindful action, we open the door for something productive. Something healing.

A Practice for Today

If the chaos feels overwhelming, take a few moments for this meditation:

Say these words aloud:

  • May I be happy.
  • May I be healthy.
  • May I be safe.
  • May I live my life with ease.

Repeat them softly to yourself. Whisper them. Let them settle in your body.

Silently say them in your mind. Feel them. Absorb their energy.

Now, send this to someone or something beyond yourself.

  • May you be happy.
  • May you be healthy.
  • May you be safe.
  • May you live your life with ease.

Repeat this a few times. Let it go. Sit in the stillness.

Then, move on with your day. With clarity. With intention. With a heart that, despite the noise of the world, remains open. Have a wonderful day.

With Love and Compassion,
Jade
